Rest in Peace, Buttercup

Today we decided to put our cat Buttercup to rest. It was a hard decision and a sad day, but after over 2 years of managing feline diabetes Buttercup's health (and bathroom habits) had started to take a turn for the worst. Although the decision feels very personally selfish as we could definitely have kept her hanging on awhile longer if had been willing to put in the extra effort on top of everything else going on in our lives, I hope it was a good decision for her as well by preventing too much suffering at the end.

Buttercup has been part of our family since early 2005 when our friend David rescued her as a stray along with her brother Mahoney. She was truly a sweet cat and will be missed, not only by me and Jason but by her feline companion Mo as well. Although skittish she was very friendly, had a great loud bobbling purr that she bestowed often, had super soft rabbit-like fur, loved to roll around and stretch on her back while showing off her white underbelly, and had a striking Harry-Potter like "scar" coloring across her eye.

Rest in peace Buttercup. I'm sorry we weren't better and selfless pet owners, although we tried. The savings from Buttercup's disease management (~$100/mo) are now being allocated to a 529 college fund for Ryan in her name - he won't remember her as part of the family, but at least there's a silver lining to today's events.
